Some weddings stay with you long after you drive home. Jillian and Andrew’s day at Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club was one of them. A Jamaican bride full of warmth and colour, an English groom with the biggest smile, and a venue that gave us golden hour light that honestly made my job look easy.
As a Wensum Valley wedding photographer, these are the kinds of days that remind me why I love what I do. I’ve had the joy of shooting at some stunning Norfolk venues, but there’s something about Wensum Valley that keeps pulling me back.
Tucked into 250 acres of Norfolk countryside just 20 minutes from Norwich city centre, Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club is one of the most underrated wedding venues in the region. Founded in 1990 and still family-run today, the hotel sits alongside the River Wensum with rolling fairways and open skies that make for spectacular photography at every time of day. They host only one wedding per day, which means when it’s your wedding, the entire venue belongs to you. As a Wensum Valley wedding photographer, that exclusivity genuinely changes how a day feels. You’re not competing for spaces, you’re not rushing, you’re just living in it.

Jillian got ready at Wensum Valley Hotel itself, surrounded by her bridesmaids, Diana, Samantha, Donique, Annalee, Khloe, and Daisy. Andrew was across the city, getting suited up with his groomsmen Gary, Graham, Joe, and Sam.
As a Wensum Valley wedding photographer, I always notice how different the energy can be on the morning of a wedding. Jillian’s prep was full of laughter and excitement, the dress, the tiara, and the flowers all coming together. Andrew’s side had that quieter, more focused energy that grooms tend to have just before everything changes. Maid of honour Romina and best man Gary kept both sides running like clockwork.
The ceremony began at 12:30pm and the room was full before they even walked in. I always ask couples to walk slowly down the aisle, not because I need the extra seconds for a shot, but because those are seconds you genuinely cannot get back. Jillian did exactly that, and the look on Andrew’s face as she came into view is one of those frames I’ll never get tired of making. As the guests settled into the moment, you could feel the two worlds of this wedding, Jamaica and England meeting in that room and becoming one.
After the ceremony, the confetti exit was chaotic in the best possible way, exactly how it should be. With the reception starting at 1:30pm, we had a natural window to get portraits done in the grounds before guests settled in. The golf course at Wensum Valley is a genuinely brilliant backdrop for couples portraits, wide open, beautifully manicured, and on a clear afternoon the light that comes across those fairways in the late afternoon is something else entirely. If you’re looking at venues near Norwich and wondering whether you’ll get great portrait opportunities, trust me, as a Wensum Valley wedding photographer, I can tell you the answer is yes.
Jillian’s family brought the warmth you’d expect, her father Oswald, her sisters, her children, her nieces and nephews. Andrew’s mum Janice, his sisters Helen, Joanne, Lily, Sophie, Rosie, and Khloe. Two families, now one. We worked through eleven group combinations with best man Gary calling guests forward, honestly one of the smoothest group shot sequences I’ve had the pleasure of directing. Formal speeches followed, and by the time the reception was in full swing with DJ Christopher Spinks setting the tone, the room was exactly where it should be.
The first dance is always one of those moments where the whole day exhales. Everything that’s been built, the nerves, the tears, the champagne, the speeches, it all settles into one song, one floor, two people. Jillian and Andrew had it. The reception ran through to 11:45pm and every moment of the evening was full. This is exactly why I love being a Wensum Valley wedding photographer, the venue gives you everything you need to make a full day of it, from morning prep to late evening dancing.
